Britt-Marie Was Here is unabashedly one of my favorite reads.
The title character walks out of her orderly, albeit dull and dry marriage after her husband of forty years asks for a divorce. She has lived a predictable life making a home for her spouse, Kent, who barely notices that she is there. So now what?
No having worked for forty years, she takes the only job available to her, that of a caretaker of a recreational center in a tiny town. To her surprise, she is also to coach a rag-tag soccer team that has no hope of making a goal much less winning a game. Bit by bit, one day at a time, Britt-Marie manages to bring hope to the town and to her own life. A quirky and humorous story about discovering dreams and hopes.
